Trump's immunity case. On Thursday, the Supreme Court heard oralarguments in Trump v. United States. During arguments, the court appearedready to side at least partially with former President Donald Trump's lawyers, who argued he has absolute immunity from criminal charges for acts taken in his official capacity as president.

Reminder: The case stems from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Trump for alleged attempts to overturn the 2020election. As part of his defense against those federal charges, Trump hasargued that he cannot be prosecuted for actions that were part of his responsibilities as president nor for actions he was already impeached for but not convicted of. A federal appeals court rejectedthose arguments, and Trump appealed the case to the Supreme Court.

We've covered this case hereand here.
